Election

Our class elects three class officers. The students who are interested in running write their own speeches and run their campaign.  The focus is on electing people who are responsible. I make sure students understand we don’t vote for our best friend. We want to vote for the person who is best for the job. For kids that can be a difficult decision. The officers are elected at the start of each new quarter. Officers run class procedures and are in charge of jobs throughout the day. At the end of the quarter, we repeat the cycle. A student can’t serve in the same office twice. When they run for office, I explain that although they get certain privileges, they will work hard.  Each office is a BIG responsibility.

Class Officers

President Responsibilities:  leads the pledge each morning, conducts the class meetings, represents our class at assemblies, dismisses students at day’s end

Secretary Responsibilities:  takes attendance each morning, prepares the homework folder for missing students,  office runner, errand runner, paper passer

Sheriff Responsibilities:  Our class sheriff is in charge of clean behavior and a clean classroom!

Duties include:  classroom and hallway monitor, keeps records in the discipline book, checks for “neat teams” at the end of the day (chairs stacked, floor clean, desks, etc.), monitors the recycling
