Since our classroom has a jungle theme, we decided to adopt a spider monkey and become a Zoo Parent. Becoming a Zoo Parent is one way to help Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. When you become a Zoo Parent, the donation helps provide care for an animal. We named our monkey Spidey. Our class learned facts about our zoo animal. To begin, spider monkeys live in tropical rain forests in Central and South America. They live in the tops of trees and almost never come down. Next, spider monkeys have acrobatic skills. They swing through trees faster than people run. Spider monkeys hang from branches by their tails. A spider monkey can live 22 years. They grow 14 to 22 inches. They weigh 13 pounds. This monkey has no hair on its face. There are white rings around the eyes. The body is furry. The monkey has long legs and there are no thumbs on its hands. Last, spider monkeys find food in the top of trees. They eat nuts, fruits, leaves, bird eggs, and spiders. 90% of their food is fruit and seeds. The zoo feeds these monkeys apples, carrots, oranges, dog chow, and wheat bread. In conclusion, spider monkeys are fun and exciting pets to adopt. It benefits the zoo when you donate. Henry Doorly Zoo uses the money to keep zoo animals healthy.
