Dear Parents, |
All fifth grade students participate in a classroom spelling bee. Students are tested on the District’s 100 Word List.
Each and every student has the opportunity to come out a winner. This award is given to everyone who masters the spelling list.
Parents can help their children. Select a few words and guide your child through these five steps: 1. Read the word. 2. Spell the word. 3. Cover the word. 4. Print the word. 5. Proofread the word—touch each letter
Make your study sessions brief. Be positive. Praise your child for the effort made. Then revisit the words you have studied. Fun activities to revisit the word include games such as hangman, letter scramble, rainbow writing (trace the letters with colorful pencils). Keep the activities short and fun and do them regularly with variety.
At school, we’ll revisit the words on your child’s list throughout the year to note the progress your child is making toward their long-term mastery. The final written test with ALL of the 100 words is given in April. Let’s make your child’s spelling a team effort - you, your child, and all of us here at school. Together we can work to make your child a champion speller. Happy Spellings! Mrs. Full |
