discuss simple adaptations to books that use visual cues to promote literacy
for children who are beginning readers. Hands on activities and
strategies to increase literacy skills in the learning process will be
shared. A “Make it and Take it” segment will allow participants to
adapt and create an interactive book and make simple adaptations to use in
the home or classroom to promote learning for the young reader impairments
will be shared. |

intervention and supplement to a K-3 Reading program in the Areas of Phonemic
Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Comprehension and Vocabulary. The second part of
the session we will explore the AT Fair CD and how to use it to create
low-tech reading supplements. |

opportunities with AAC devices ranging from low tech communication boards to high
end dedicated devices such as the Tango, Vmax, and Say-it! SAM. While the
focus will be on device exploration, AAC related information will be
discussed: selecting the right device, promoting communicative competence,
using visual supports, and developing literacy skills of AAC users. |
