DESCRIPTION:
Pre-algebra is designed to help the learner prepare for
the abstract thinking concepts presented in higher levels of mathematics. An emphasis will be placed on basic
arithmetic along with applications.
Each student should come to class prepared every
day. This includes pencils, pens, paper
for math assignments, math notebook for notes, text, and calculators.
*A calculator is not required
but here is a list of some suggestions:

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
Students will respect others, themselves, and
property.
Students will be prepared of learn for class.
Students will be responsible for their attitude and
actions.
Students will be responsible for their attendance and
their grade.
Students will be diligent in their studies and use
their time wisely
ATTENDANCE:
All students are expected to be in class. Students
will be in their seat and quiet when the bell rings or they will be counted
tardy. All homework given on a missed
day will follow school policy which states that the student will have one day
for each day missed to complete make-up assignments. Students are also expected to get the missed
notes from other students in class. It
is the student’s responsibility to take care of missed homework and come in for
help if needed.
HELP SESSIONS:
Students can come up for extra help at 7:30 in the
mornings before school and after school.
The student will make all arrangements.
GRADING SYSTEM:
Grades will be
tabulated using points acquired divided by total possible points.
1.
Homework:
-
Homework will be assigned almost every day.

Homework will be checked while students are taking their quizzes
- If
homework is completed the student receive 5 points on their homework
grade. If the assignment is not
completed, the student receives 0 points on their homework grade.

Homework grades will be given weekly
2.
Quizzes:
- Quizzes will be
given almost everyday after questions have been asked about the previous lesson
-
Quizzes will ask questions on the concept learned the day before
- Quizzes will be worth differing points depending of
the problems
- Quizzes
will account for the majority of the daily grades
3.
Notebook
Quiz:
- A
notebook quiz will be given at the end of every quarter.

Students will be allowed to use notes to answer questions about things
discussed in class.
4.
Tests
-
Tests will be given at the end of each
chapter

Semester Tests will be given at the end of each semester

Tests will be worth 100 points

Chapter Tests will be counted twice in the grade book

Group Work
and Projects
-
Group work and projects will be assigned throughout the year

Points will be explained when the project is assigned
6.
Extra
Credit
-
Students will be
given extra credit points for their participation in class
-
Students may also
bring one box of kleenex per quarter for a total of 10 points
-
Grade Sheets will
be sent home twice a quarter. If the
student returns the grade sheets with a parent signature then they will receive
10 extra credit points.

Participation is
also a great way to earn extra credit.
ADDITTIONAL RULES:
1.
Any student caught
cheating will receive a 0 for the assignment, quiz, or test
2.
If you are caught talking
about anything during a quiz or test, the first warning will be 10 points taken
off the quiz or test, the second warning will be a 0 on the quiz or test.
3.
If the student
does not bring their homework, he or she will be given a detention to be served
in my room either before of after school the next day to complete the
assignment.
