Reading Workshop

Periodically in English class we spend a few weeks learning about elements in young adult books.  Sometimes your child/student's homework for English will be to read 100 minutes outside of class over a period of one to two weeks.  This means your child/student can read during study hall, at home, traveling somewhere, just about anywhere you can imagine!
Your child/student will have a red reading slip for you to sign.  He/She should give or show you this slip BEFORE beginning to read.  If you wish, you can write down what time it is in the margin, so you can keep track of the number of minutes read!
After reading, your child/student should come back and POLITELY ask you to do the following:
1.  Write down the number of minutes they read in the parentheses  ( ) on their reading slip.
2.  Sign your name on the slip.
3.  Return the slip to him/her.
If the lines on the reading slip are all used, you may use the back of the slip to record the rest of the reading time.  You'll probably sign many slips this year, which can sometimes be a hassle, but I hope seeing your child/student curled up with a good book is compensation!  Thank you for your role in creating lifetime readers.
