PRE-SEASON MEETING GIRLS BASKETBALL
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH, 2007
Our vision for the Girls Basketball Program at Norfolk
Public Schools is to teach and model Attitude, Balance, and Commitment (ABC's) in
both basketball and in life.
Welcome!! I hope you are as excited as I am about
this upcoming season. Today I would like to take you through some of the
expectations the coaching staff has placed upon this program, and, essentially,
you. Not only do we care that you are successful basketball players, achieving
and striving for greatness, but we also care for your success off the floor.
Succeeding in the classroom, with friends, your team mates, and your parents
are also important to us as a coaching staff.
As our vision statement outlines, we want to work and improve upon your
attitude, balance, and commitment in hoops and life.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE:
Monday, November 12th: 6:00 am and 3:40
pm
Tuesday, November 13th: 5:40 pm
Wednesday, November 14th: 6:00 am and
3:40 pm
Thursday, November 15th: 5:40 pm
Friday, November 17th: 3:40

**We
will be practicing with the 9th grade the first week**
**Cuts
(if needed) will be made before practice on Thursday**
*Players will be given five (5)
practices to make the team. With the way our practice schedule is set up, that
would be after practice on Wednesday. If a player is to be cut, the coaching
staff will:
a. meet with that player
individually on Thursday after school
b.
explain to that player why the cut is being made
c. give suggestions/ideas on how to
improve for the next season
d. explore other options (student
manager, filmer, student trainer)
**Please stay current with the schedule you have
been given, ask questions if you don’t know or can’t remember.**

SHOES:
I would like you to have a color that the team
decides is the team color (white, black, etc). What you buy or do not buy is up
to you. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY SHOES IF YOU DON’T WANT TO!!! IT IS NOT
REQUIRED!
FUND RAISER:
??????
We can discuss this as a team next week. More
thoughts on this later
PHYSICAL AND FEE:
Before you practice the office must have your
physical on file!! The fee is $40 total ($25 Activity card $15 Participation
fee)
REVERSIBLE
A reversible jersey will be checked out to you
when uniforms are checked out. This is to be worn to practice everyday, and you
are responsible for keeping this jersey. It will be checked in at the end of
the year. Replacement cost = $35.
EARRINGS, JEWELRY:
Earrings and jewelry are NOT TO BE WORN AT
PRACTICE!! Can’t wear them in a game, get used to it in practice. Please don’t
make this a constant issue. Take care of this before practice.
PRACTICE:
Early practice starts at 3:40, late practice will
vary, but the majority of the time it will begin at 5:40 to stretch. We take
the floor at 6:00. Be prompt, don’t be “on time”, be early. Tardiness will be
dealt with by the coaching staff w/input from our players.
VARSITY:
Right now, I have 10 players in mind. That can
change. I would like to suit no more than 12. What are your goals?
SATURDAY AFTERNOON SCRIMMAGE:
We will have a scrimmage Saturday, November 17th
@ noon at the Junior High School. After the scrimmage we will pass out uniforms
@ the High School. Plan accordingly.
PICTURE DAY:
Tuesday, November 20th after school (Team, booster, etc.) – more
details later.
GRADES, ATTENDANCE
I will be keeping in contact with your teachers to
make sure you are attending class and also keeping your grades up. Please make
it to class on time, no unverified absences. This is the “C” of our Vision
Statement: be Committed to the classroom, as well as the court.
WINTER:
Please dress accordingly. Wearing shorts, no coat,
hatless, is unacceptable!! Keep warm and stay healthy!!
“Stuff”
You will be given a lock and locker in the girls
locker room. Please use this area to put your items. The stage is not a
dressing room, so please use the locker room.
COMMUNICATION:
As you know, we are all out of the building, so
communication is going to be a key this year. If you need to get a hold of me
during the day, here is how you can:
Phone # (Middle School): 644-2569
Email address: jmrsny@npsne.org
Cell #: 992-1876
If you go home sick from school (before the end of
the day), you are expected to stay home. If you “don’t feel good” at the end of
the day, please contact me and let me know. This is your responsibility. Don’t
tell a friend to relay your sickness to me.
Be open to change, hard work, laughing, meeting
new people, having fun, accepting change, learning about life and basketball,
and, most importantly, making this a year to remember!!
