Mrs. Reedy's Class Information Sheet

2007-2008

THE WEB ADDRESS found above can be utilized by students and parents.  There are online chapter quizzes to help prepare for upcoming tests and a variety of other sites to accompany our topics studied in class.  There is also a link to Parent Connect for updates on student grades.  Please keep in mind that this site is still under construction and will be updated periodically.

THE GRADING PROCEDURE will be based on total points. For example, if there are a total of 900 points in one trimester and you have 825 points, then you will receive a 92%. The grading scale is posted in the science room. The class will consist of daily homework, projects, labs, quizzes, and tests. All students will be given a weekly preparation grade, which is simply based on coming to class prepared…book, paper, pencil, and homework. Your grade can suffer if you are not ready for class, so PREPARE and be RESPONSIBLE. J

EXTRA CREDIT will be made available to all students during each trimester. This extra credit will be in the form of current events in science and possible bonus points on chapter tests. Current event articles can be cut or photocopied from magazines or newspapers. If you need access to newspapers or magazines, please let me know and I will assist you with this. You may also print them off the Internet if you would like. When printing articles from the Internet, they may NOT be more than one page in length and you must include the exact web-address so I may access the article on-line. When you hand in the current event articles, you must include a written paragraph about the article, and the name, date, and page number(s) of the magazine or newspaper in which you found the article. The articles can be NO MORE THAN 2 MONTHS OLD. You can hand in 10 articles per trimester by their due dates (announced in class). Please do not ask for other extra credit opportunities. The extra credit needs to be consistent for all students.

ASSIGNMENTS are to be turned in on time!! You are now becoming young adults and you must be responsible for your work. If late assignments become a problem, certain privileges will be taken away and parents will be contacted. I don't want you to have to spend your after school time in the classroom completing late work when I know you'd rather be out doing your own activities. Make the RIGHT decisions. I will always do my best to help you out, but you must also help yourselves.

LATE ASSIGNMENTS are any assignments that are not handed in at the time they are called for (usually at the beginning of the class period). Late assignments will result in a reduction in grade for that particular assignment. Any assignment that is late within a week's time of the due date will only be able to receive a maximum of a 70%. Any assignment that is later than a week will only be able to receive a maximum of a 50%. Students will be kept after school according to the school policy until late work has been completed. Also during trimesters one and two, students will receive a "free coupon." This coupon may be turned in WITH a late assignment (as long as it is received by the day after the assignment was due) to avoid the reduction in grade. This coupon can be utilized in situations such as, lost assignment, forgot it at home, didn't get assignment done because of a family emergency, etc. If a student makes it through the trimester without using the coupon, it can then be turned in for extra credit. Any lost coupons will NOT be replaced. I expect all students to help prepare themselves for the 8th grade.  This is why I do NOT generally keep students after school for late work during the 3rd trimester

MISSING SCHOOL:  Students are responsible for all make-up work. The school policy will be followed. If tests or quizzes are missed, the student is responsible for setting up a time to complete this work. Please make sure that you are prepared…you must make the effort to get ANY missed work (this includes notes).

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

    1. Be on time (allow me to teach and others to learn)
    2. Come to class prepared (book, paper, writing utensil, assignment)
    3. Respect others, school, and personal property
    4. Use appropriate language
    5. Listen carefully and follow instructions the first time
    6. Deal with conflicts peacefully

CLASSROOM BEHAVIORS

All students must abide by the student expectations, testing procedures, and laboratory rules that are reviewed in science class. Appropriate behavior is always expected. The following discipline format will be used IF necessary:

            1st Offense: Informal warning

2nd Offense: Talk to me right after class

3rd Offense: Time spent after school (parents may also be contacted)

            4th Offense: Principal's office

I can, at any time, skip the offense line order if certain behaviors need to be dealt with immediately.

PORTFOLIOS

I keep a file for each student. This file may contain some homework assignments, quizzes, possible labs, and chapter tests.
