CHINESE CULTURE EXPLORATORY

The following activities will be done during Mr. G's exploratory on Chinese/Oriental culture:

1. Students will watch two videos:
    "Iron and Silk"-watch and write about differences between Chinese and American Cultures.
    "Touring China"-watch and take notes and make a Powerpoint presentation on China(library video #169-alternatives #1614 or #1548)

2. Students will make and use tangram puzzles found at:
    Tangrams--history--puzzles--make--links.
    Tom Scavo's Tangrams.

3. Students will learn to fold origami found at:
    Sadako Book and diagrams.

4. Students will learn to speak Chinese from listening to Learnables Tapes.

5. Students will get and use a Chinese name. They will write the name at least twice and use the name in class. Check out the rest of the resources on the Mandarin Tools Website.

6. Take a look at and enjoy these great sites about China:
    China Emuseum-info about ancient China to the present.
    China Source-info for those who serve China.
    Discovering China-a Think Quest site with info and inventions, movers and shakers, and much more. China, an Inner Realm is another excellent Think Quest site.
    China todayis a megasite about China.
    China's Embassy site.
    Zoom School China-a great place to start when learning about China.
    Walk the Great Wall...wow must have a high-speed connection.

7. Read aloud...Dragonwings by Lawrence Yep...explore some of its themes...
