     NORFOLK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA

Notice of the second meeting of the month was published in the Norfolk Daily News on Saturday, July 23, 2005.

The Board of Education met on Thursday, July 28, 2005, for the second meeting of the month at 12:00 p.m. at the Norfolk Public Schools Administration Office, 512 Philip Avenue.  Members present included:  Brad Krivohlavek, Julee Pfeil, Paul Cazabon, Jane McDaniel, and Clark Froehlich.  Absent:  Alfredo Ramirez.  Also present were Superintendent Randy Nelson and Dan DePasquale.

Brad Krivohlavek, President, called the meeting to order at 12:08 p.m. and declared a legally advertised meeting of the Board of Education.

Replacement Staff – It was moved by Jane, seconded by Julee, to approve the following replacement staff:

ü      Heather Hanna, Westside Reading teacher

Roll Call:  Aye – Krivohlavek, Pfeil, McDaniel, and Froehlich.  Nay – None.  Absent:  Cazabon and Alfredo Ramirez.    Motion carried.

Paul Cazabon arrived at the meeting at 12:11 p.m.

Budget Review – Dr. Nelson reviewed the 2005-06 budget projections/estimates for 2005-06 school year.  The preliminary estimates show that the district will be asking for a total budget of $33,234,231 which is an approximate increase of a little over 1 percent and would call for a total levy of 1.21593 (compared to 1.156763 for 2004-05).  This is an increase of .059167 which is mostly due to the increase needed for the bond election projects. It is looking like the increase to taxpayers will be approximately $59.16 in taxes on a $100,000 home compared to the earlier estimate of $78.00 per $100,000 home.   Another budget workshop is scheduled for August 25, 2005.

Dr. Krivohlavek stated that he felt the administration has done a good job keeping the budget as low as possible and still provide a quality education to our students.

Bidding Process

The Board briefly discussed the bidding process for Grant and Middle School.  Dr. Nelson pointed out that all drawings for all building should be done by December with the bids in by the middle of March.

Workshops -- Dr. Nelson invited the board to stop by at the workshops next Monday and Tuesday (Dibels and Step Up to Writing).

At 1:45 p.m. President Krivohlavek declared the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Randy A. Nelson, Secretary                           Brad Krivohlavek, President
