Discussion Items

ü      Dr. Nelson reported that they are having our architects give input into who is responsible for paying for the Senior High transformers.

ü      Dr. Nelson reported that Tom Hall, architects, construction managers, and himself met April 27 to discuss construction at Grant Elementary.  It is hoped to have the bids ready by end of May with digging to begin by end of June.  The fire sprinklers will be installed this summer so the building will not be used for anything else.  The privacy fence has been installed.  We are still in the process of trying to sell the house for the amount of expenses it would cost to move the house (approximately $15,000).  We cannot legally just give the house away.  Habitat for Humanity did not want the house.

ü      Soil testing at the Middle School was done and it looks like more fill will be needed.  We are hoping to start digging there by June.

ü      We are also hoping to get some work done at Westside this year.

ü      Dr. Nelson and Mr. Waite held a telephone conference call with Al Eveland, fiscal agent, and a person from the bond rating company.  It looks like we should quality for a AA rating on the bonds.  A resolution will be brought to the May board meeting and then local agents will be notified that we have bonds ready to sell.

ü      Additional MECCA funds in the amount of $208,000 (02-03 funds) were received.  This brings our total receipts to $605,000 this year for MECCA funds.

ü      The house north of Grant is in the processing of being moved out (we hope).

ü      Dr. Nelson reported that he would be bringing some changes to the early retirement policy to the May meeting.  He hopes to meet with staff on May 19.  Dr. Nelson thinks this will help fill some of our athletic positions.

The board will discuss this early retirement policy at the Board Retreat.

Dr. Nelson reported that he met with the NCEA reps and visited with them           about the Early Retirement Policy.  He stated that 99 percent of the staff           will benefit from this policy.

ü      Dr. Krivohlavek invited board members to attend the LIFE graduation on May 13 at Senior High Johnny Carson Theatre at 10:00 a.m.

National School Boards Convention – Dr. Krivohlavek shared his experiences at the national convention.  He stated he was appreciative of the opportunity to attend the convention.  Some topics the convention focused on were safety and security and obesity in children.  He attended topics regarding how to run a meeting, how to set up a board agenda, and Robert’s Rule of Order.  He also reported on the keynote speaker and musical groups.

Board Retreat – The Board Retreat was set for May 21 from 9:00-1:00 at Divot’s.  Mary Plettner will facilitate the retreat.

Adjournment – Brad Krivohlavek, President, adjourned the meeting at 12:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
