     NORFOLK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA

Notice of the second meeting of the month was published in the Norfolk Daily News on Saturday, October 23, 2004.

The Board of Education met on Thursday, October 28, 2004, for the second meeting of the month at 11:30 a.m. at the Norfolk Public Schools Administration Office, 512 Philip Avenue.  Members present included Jim Scheer, Brad Krivohlavek (arrived at 11:50 a.m.), Jane McDaniel, Julee Pfeil and Alfredo Ramirez.   Absent:  Paul Cazabon.  Also present were Superintendent Randy Nelson, Robert Waite, and Dan DePasquale.

Jim Scheer, President, called the meeting to order at 11:40 a.m. and declared a legally advertised meeting of the Board of Education.

Financial Report – Robert Waite, Associate Superintendent for Business, reported on the receipts and expenditures of the district.   He reported the district was in good financial status.

Natural Gas Cooperative – Mr. Waite reported that he would still recommend that the district enter into a cooperative agreement with Seminole Energy Services.  The Nebraska State School Boards Association endorses this program.

Cards Sent on Behalf of Board of Education – It was the general consensus that cards on behalf of the Board of Education will be sent.  Veryle will make up several cards and have the board sign them.  It will be the responsibility of the board members to contact the board president or the superintendent’s office when a card should be sent.

Construction Managers – The committee of Jim Scheer, Bob Waite, Randy Nelson, Alfredo Ramirez, and Brad Krivohlavek recommended that the firms of Beckenhauer Construction Company of Norfolk, and W. Boyd Jones of Omaha be given a chance to submit a proposal on the construction manager projects.  The firms of J. H. Hespe Company and CPMI were eliminated from the process.  They will be sent letters.

It was moved by Brad Krivohlavek, seconded by Alfredo Ramirez, to approve this recommendation.   Roll call: Aye:  Scheer, Krivohlavek, Ramirez, Pfeil, and McDaniel.  Nay:  None.  Absent:  Cazabon.  Motion carried.

Other Items

ü      Dr. Nelson and Mr. Scheer had both visited with Paul Cazabon following his surgery.  He is doing OK.  A plant was sent to him from the board.

ü      It was the general consensus of the board to provide a similar format as last year for Staff Appreciation.  Mike Kneale will be the speaker.  It was noted that we get the FFA boys to start cooking the hamburgers ahead of time so we don’t run behind.

President Scheer adjourned at 1:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Randy A. Nelson, Secretary                                           Jim Scheer, President
