Notice
of the second meeting of the month was published in the Norfolk Daily News
on Saturday, October 23, 2004.
The
Board of Education met on Thursday, October 28, 2004, for the second meeting of
the month at 11:30 a.m. at the Norfolk Public Schools Administration Office,
512 Philip Avenue. Members present
included Jim Scheer, Brad Krivohlavek (arrived at 11:50 a.m.), Jane McDaniel,
Julee Pfeil and Alfredo Ramirez.
Absent: Paul Cazabon. Also present were Superintendent Randy
Nelson, Robert Waite, and Dan DePasquale.
Jim
Scheer, President, called the meeting to order at 11:40 a.m. and declared a
legally advertised meeting of the Board of Education.
Financial
Report
– Robert Waite, Associate Superintendent for Business, reported on the receipts
and expenditures of the district. He
reported the district was in good financial status.
Natural
Gas Cooperative – Mr. Waite reported that he would still recommend that the district
enter into a cooperative agreement with Seminole Energy Services. The Nebraska State School Boards Association
endorses this program.
Cards
Sent on Behalf of Board of Education – It was the general consensus that cards on behalf
of the Board of Education will be sent.
Veryle will make up several cards and have the board sign them. It will be the responsibility of the board
members to contact the board president or the superintendent’s office when a
card should be sent.
Construction
Managers
– The committee of Jim Scheer, Bob Waite, Randy Nelson, Alfredo Ramirez, and
Brad Krivohlavek recommended that the firms of Beckenhauer Construction Company
of Norfolk, and W. Boyd Jones of Omaha be given a chance to submit a proposal
on the construction manager projects.
The firms of J. H. Hespe Company and CPMI were eliminated from the
process. They will be sent letters.
It was
moved by Brad Krivohlavek, seconded by Alfredo Ramirez, to approve this
recommendation. Roll call: Aye: Scheer, Krivohlavek, Ramirez, Pfeil, and
McDaniel. Nay: None.
Absent: Cazabon. Motion carried.
Other
Items
ü Dr. Nelson and Mr. Scheer
had both visited with Paul Cazabon following his surgery. He is doing OK. A plant was sent to him from the board.
ü It was the general consensus
of the board to provide a similar format as last year for Staff
Appreciation. Mike Kneale will be the
speaker. It was noted that we get the
FFA boys to start cooking the hamburgers ahead of time so we don’t run behind.

Scheer adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
