     NORFOLK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA

Notice of the second meeting of the month was published in the Norfolk Daily News on Thursday, October 20, 2005.

The Board of Education met on Thursday, October 27, 2005, for the second meeting of the month at 12:00 p.m. at the Norfolk Public Schools Administration Office, 512 Philip Avenue.  Members present included:  Brad Krivohlavek, Julee Pfeil, Paul Cazabon, Jane McDaniel, and Clark Froehlich.  Absent:  Alfredo Ramirez.  Also present were Superintendent Randy Nelson, Robert Waite, and Doug Witte.

Brad Krivohlavek, President, called the meeting to order at 12:07 p.m. and declared a legally advertised meeting of the Board of Education.

Principal Update – Cory Worrell updated the board on the DIBELS testing at Lincoln Elementary School.  He specifically talked about the benchmark testing and the intervention work being done.  He feels that great strides have been made since they started DIBELS.

Construction Update – Mr. Waite reported on the construction progress.

Middle School – The steel is going up and the aluminum studs are also in place.  They will work on getting the north side finished first and then move to the other sides.  The drywall people are pushing the steel people to get started.  November 7 is the date to start pouring the floor.  The board decided that whoever wants to take a tour of the Middle School would do so at 4:00 p.m. on November 14.  Please contact Mr. Waite ahead of time so he can get the hard hats.

Grant Elementary – There needs to be better communication by the foreman at Grant Elementary School.  Hopefully this has been taken care of now.  Aquila needs to move a gas hydrant and this has created a problem.  The footings are dug and will be poured today.  The roofer has been put off until a later time—it did not work out to get the roof repaired now.  They have worked with the fire marshal so that a second exit can be secured so work can get started.

Senior High/Junior High – Have met with the architects and have reviewed the Junior High and Senior High plans.  These will be bid early next year so that they have two summers to work on the projects.

Jefferson House Appraisal -- Mr. Waite reported that the appraisal was finally made for the house by Jefferson School.  At this time they are not interested.

LB 126 – Dr. Nelson updated the board on LB 126 and will keep them updated as new developments arise.

Executive Session – At 12:42 p.m. it was moved by Clark Froehlich, seconded by Paul Cazabon, to move into executive session for the purpose of discussion of personnel.  Roll call:  Aye – Krivohlavek, McDaniel, Pfeil, Cazabon, and Froehlich.  Nay – None.  Absent:  Ramirez.  Motion carried.

End Executive Session
