Amend Resolution

     NORFOLK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA

Notice of the second meeting of the month was published in the Norfolk Daily News on Saturday, January 15, 2005.

The Board of Education met on Thursday, January 20, 2005, for the second meeting of the month at 11:30 a.m. at the Norfolk Public Schools Administration Office, 512 Philip Avenue.  Members present included Brad Krivohlavek, Jane McDaniel, Julee Pfeil, Paul Cazabon, Alfredo Ramirez, and Clark Froehlich.  Absent:  None.  Also present were Superintendent Randy Nelson, Robert Waite, Doug Witte, and Dan DePasquale.  Al Eveland, bond representative, was present.

Brad Krivohlavek, President, called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. and declared a legally advertised meeting of the Board of Education.

Dr. Nelson announced that the board needed to pass a resolution, which would clean up the signature cards at the bank.

It was moved by Alfredo Ramirez, seconded by Jane McDaniel, to approve the resolution to clean up the signature cards at the bank.  Roll call:  Aye:  Krivohlavek, McDaniel, Ramirez, Pfeil, Cazabon, and Froehlich.  Nay:  None.  Motion carried.

(See copy of resolution) – Exhibit A

It was moved by Alfredo Ramirez, seconded by Paul Cazabon, to clean up the language in the superintendent’s contract regarding fringe benefits to read as follows:

“In addition to vacation leave, sick leave, and transportation reimbursement for travel outside of the district, the Superintendent shall receive the same fringe benefit dollar amount as all other Norfolk Public School administrators.  This fringe benefit amount is part of the Superintendent’s total compensation and is in addition to the Superintendent’s salary.”

Roll call:  Aye:  Krivohlavek, McDaniel, Ramirez, Pfeil, Cazabon, and Froehlich.  Nay:  None.  Motion carried.

Al Eveland, Ameritas representative, discussed how the bonds would work if the board passed the resolution to proceed with a bond election.  He also explained that the district would need to levy an additional 5 cents in the year 2006.  The total cost of the bond election would be $25,273,000 and the bond issue that will go before the voters will be $20,770,000.  The additional funds will come from the 5 cents increase starting in year 2006.  It is estimated that the increase in taxes will be approximately $79 dollars on a $100,000 home.

The board members discussed the ballot itself.  After much discussion it was decided to have only one ballot and to educate the patrons in the affiliated districts and to how it will affect them.

It was moved by Julee Pfeil, seconded by Alfredo Ramirez, to amend the resolution presented and to have it reflect a single ballot instead of two ballots.  Roll call:  Aye:  Krivohlavek, McDaniel, Ramirez, Pfeil, Cazabon, and Froehlich.  Nay:  None.  Motion carried.
